The Last Touch
By Jeff Kurzner @ 12:08 PM :: 137 Views :: :: Coaching

Many attackers lose accuracy and power when making their last touch before a delivering a crossing ball.  While moving toward the goal line, they try to cross the ball with their shoulders still facing down the field.  It's virtually impossible to get the kind of leg whip and strength necessary to properly and accurately cross the ball in that manner.  A better cross can usually be made when the shoulders are directed toward the goal and the hips have already started their momentum in that direction.  (Insert picture or diagram) This technique also avoids the potential problem over over extending the hip joint leading to injuries in the younger players.  Make that last touch toward the goal before playing the cross and you will see how much more accurate and effective your crosses will become.
